Discovered in 1950, the Koněprusy Caves unveil three levels stretching across 2,050 meters. The caves are renowned for their unique geological formations, including the famed Koněprusy Roses, a type of stalactite formation found nowhere else. Limestone deposits in the cave date back 400 million years, and its corridors and chambers are adorned with awe-inspiring calcium formations and paleontological treasures.
But it's not just the geology that makes Koněprusy Caves intriguing; it's also the history. Archaeological excavations have uncovered evidence of prehistoric human habitation, including Paleolithic tools and Neolithic pottery. The caves were also used in the Middle Ages as a secret mint for counterfeit coin production.
Guided tours are available, leading visitors through a 620-meter-long path, revealing the caves' most stunning formations and historical aspects. A constant temperature of about 9°C (48°F) makes it a refreshing getaway during the summer and a relatively mild destination in winter.
